April 16th World Wide SketchCrawl was a wonderful success, the final figure is still not in but SketchCrawlers around the world raised more than $4000 to help Japan Disaster relief efforts! The World Wide SketchCrawl is in only three days away! There are a more than eighty locations around the world ready to draw on saturday, come by the forums let us know where you’ll be sketchcrawling! The next global drawing marathon is next saturday!! Hope you can join in the fun and help us spread the word; twitter or facebook take your pick and let the world know! Come by the forums and see where people are sketching around the globe. We have almost one hundred different locations participating, amazing!! If you are in San Francisco we’ll be drawing around Crissy fields and the Palace of Fine Arts. The meeting is at the Warming Hut at 10:30. We’re also gonna be raffling a special item: Chris Ingram of Ingram Fine Arts has donated one of his nifty StudioOnTheGo portfolios. Be sure to check these out, very cool option for SketchCrawlers. The forums are bustling with activity with artists posting drawings from almost one hundred locations around the world, really amazing, be sure to check it out. Here in San Francisco we spent sketchcrawl around downtown with a nice and large group of artists. Here are my contributions from the day, all people drawing for some reason. Ronnie and I sat at Coppola’s Zoetrope cafe and we had a great view on this character (bottom page).

I was pretty unhappy with this drawing of my co-worker Duncan at the ferry building, felt really rusty, so I mixed it up a bit with a Mercedes Benz … go figure … but the result is more passable.

I was having a hard time composing the page yesterday, I’m rusty since I don’t draw as much as I used to at work lately … but I liked single drawings here in there … for example these three sitting on muni on the way back home for example … and the guy taking a photo had a great flow to his pose.

That was it for the crawl … though last night I watercolored some older pages from a past chinatown crawl I hadn’t got a chance to get to yet. I focused on a little drawing I like: the crawler sketching away, the old guy with arms crossed above him was fun too.

My thoughts and prayers go to all the friends and people of Chile. Starting a SketchCrawl day, a day where I always joyfully think of people around the world, with the terrifying news of the Earthwake was really hard. I tried to get over the feeling of helplessness and headed out to draw. In San Francisco we met around the dogpatch area and what a great place to sketch it is! After having crawled in many different neighborhoods of this city it was really fun to find a new one to draw in … we also once again dodged bad weather, there was drizzle maybe for 5 minutes but the rest of the day had a stunning mix of cloudy and sunny skies. Thanks for all of you who joined in SF and all of you from the rest of the world. Be sure to check all the amazing entries from more than a hundred different cities around the globe.Here’s some of my watercolors from the day.

Been so long

I didn’t plan for this extended hiatus but somehow in the last few months I’ve had the worse time keeping up with any internet tasks. Even answering emails has become difficult. I’ve been busy but that’s not it, been busy before and still kept at blogging. I think it’s a little different this time, I’ve hit a point where it’s hard for me to find the mind space to do much blogging or surfing. I’m good and my family healthy, in fact Fio is growing beautifully, it’s a wonder every day … I guess it’s just that’s there’s not much internet power in me lately. I wouldn’t want to quit this, but I think you might continue to see some sporadic blogging from me. I still do keep up with SketchCrawl though … and two weeks ago on November 21st, we held the 25th World Wide SketchCrawl. Be sure to check out some of the amazing results from all around the globe at the forums!! Cool, see you around!
