Last friday we had the pleasure of a 3D screening of Coraline and a Q&A with Henry Sellick here at Pixar. I absolutely loved the movie, my eyes were a little tired halfway through with those 3d glasses, but I’d still recommend seeing it in 3D. It’s a wonderful movie, that shows in every tiny detail the amazing amount of work, talent and love that went into making it. I was very happy to see the little touches such as trees and textures that showed our friend Tadahiro’s unmistakable design sense. Here’s a high-res trailer.

This movie affected me in a way I haven’t been affected since Nausicaa (and Star Wars before it) – it made me rethink a lot of things, especially about the kind of story that can be told in our medium, and how it can be told. This film might join my most repeat views list soon! The latest American Cinematographer has a story by the DP that is very insightful. I especially intrigued by the use of color and forced perspective.

Argh, this will no doubt take forever to reach Japan, the release date isn’t even listed on IMDB. *Sigh*
