Ghibliworld has posted a translation of the latest Toshio Suzuki’s radio show Ghibli Asemamire. It features a lengthy interview with Hayao Miyazaki. He speaks his mind about Ponyo, going back to living simply, the state of the world, nurseries and much more. I found it a wonderful and inspiring read, don’t miss it.

Yay I just sent all the files and the laser copies of every page of the Chronicles to the printer in HongKong! Time to make this book!
The TFP website has been updated and everyone’s work has now been uploaded! Don’t miss perusing through this fantastic and diverse collection of more than 200 pieces of art. Each artist’s take on the world and inspiration of Totoro is truly a wonder to behold. I’m gonna feature a little work in progress of my [...]
Unfortunately I lost the rough thumbnail I had done for the Gondola piece. The basic layout though started as a vertical one with me drawing on the footsteps of a canal and Marit passing on a gondola. I wanted a lot of water to fill a good amount of the cover, so to fit the [...]
Ladies and gentlemen we present you: “The Totoro Forest Project”. A little idea that turned into a major undertaking. What is it exactly? Totoro Forest Project is an international charity effort to preserve Sayama Forest, also known as Totoro Forest. This endangered sanctuary on the outskirts of Tokyo is where director Hayao Miyazaki got the [...]
How I loved Richard Scarry books when I was a kid. I learned my first words on these and most of the characters and images are just ingrained in my DNA. It’s so amazing and nostalgic to rediscover them now with Fio, will she learn her first words with these books too? Will she have [...]
There’s a project Dice Tsutsumi, Yukino Pang, Ronnie del Carmenn and I have been working on for a few months. This is a sketch connected to it. We’ve been keeping all this under wraps for a while now but we are finally just days away from it hitting the blogosphere. I’m sure some of you [...]
There are a ton of images from the movie to peruse through at the updated Studio Ghibli webpage for Gake no ue Ponyo. GhibliWorld.com also has an interesting post with some snippets from a Goro (Hayao Miyazaki’s son) interview regarding his father’s movie. Mostly rather confusing remarks, but also not very supportive … those two [...]
At JFK heading back to San Francisco. We had three fun days here, Ronnie and I, both sketchcrawl and our talk were really fun and seem to have been enthusiastically received. Glad to head back home though, it was hard to leave and be apart from Fio and my wife. Anyway … I picked up [...]
Having some nice miso ramen at ippudo in the east village (I highly recommend this new restaurant). The talk this afternoon at Icon5 went swell, we had a great time … Happy 4th of July!!!
