more work in progress
Thought I’d show you the pencil drawing for the cover. Unfortunately I only have an iphone photo of it, should’ve scanned it really. Anyway, so there you have it! The piece is done and finished on the media side of things, but there’s plenty to do on the computer. It’s time to scan it and do a few tweaks in photoshop: adjust levels here and there and make a couple of fixes on some small screw ups. After adjusting the levels on different parts of the image I went in with the stamp tool and fixed small areas in which the color bled where I didn’t want it too. One example is the tip of the Gondola’s distinctive front, some of the aqua color of the water went over areas of that. So clean up that area and get rid of the aqua color by stamping the grey/purple color of the Gondola’s metal. One other change is the little carpet the Gondolier (my father in law) is standing on. I watercolored it red, but I realized it should be blue (given some reference shots I found and also the overall color design). It’s super easy to change the hue of specific areas in photoshop by using “replace color”. Next the really interesting part starts: designing the cover!

Wow … Wow … Wow!
The color of that water is breathtaking.
It sits so nicely with the brick color, too.

Looks beautiful. I like the unique angle, I feel like a bird wanting to fly down and land in the boat.

Enrico, this is looking really gorgeous. I like the predominantly primary color based palette. Your water is lovely. Just has a great feel to it. However, I also really like what’s going on with the red brick and yellow plaster. Just wonderful. Can I have it? Please??
