Linda Linda Linda

I was expecting a silly and light as air comedy when I netflixed Linda Linda Linda a japanese film by Nobuhiro Yamashita (trailer here). I was pleasantly surprised by a truly enjoyable, calm and refreshing movie. There’s no big drama in here and the movie is indeed light, but not as in superficial, rather as in wonderfully understated. Linda Linda Linda has a slow and deliberate pace, filled with a pervasive feeling of nostalgia. It’s wonderful to see a story with a point of view steadily focused on its female leads, it’s their movie and it feels honest and real in its simplicity. Many of the shots are really about setting up mood and subtly building characters, seldom about advancing plot, I fully appreciate that. It’s no mistake that Yamashita has been called the Jim Jarmusch of Japan. I’ll keep an eye out on his next movie Tennen Kokekko (trailer here).

Oh, and yes, there’s no escape, you will be singing Linda Linda Linda!! (by the Blue Hearts) for days on end after watching this movie … at least I was.

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll have to look out for this film. Second girl from the left looks like the actress from the Host?

I don’t see the Host on her imdb page …
She was in Sympathy for mister Vengeance, the first movie of the Trilogy from Chan-wook Park … and a bunch of other Korean horror movies looks like … like the korean version of the ring …

DUDE! I have this movie sitting on my DVD player, but I haven’t watched it yet. Every time I look at it I feel like I’m not in the mood for it. I should definitely put it in. I’ve heard so many great things about it.

Watched it… AMAZING! So beautiful. There is an odd sense of nostalgia even though I’m not a female Japanese high school student. Nor have I ever been. The first word that mind was lush. Great!
