Goodbye Madame Butterfly
I am reading the latest offering from the friends at Chin Music Press. Goodbye Madame Butterfly, as we’ve come to expect from CMP, is beautifully designed and carefully produced. Written by Sumie Kawakami the book portrays modern japanese women from all walks of life, candidly discussing their often disturbing or dysfunctional marriages and sexual relations. I’m half way through and it’s been a really interesting read so far. More selfishly I had been wanting to read this book for pseudo-research/inspiration for my haiku5-7-5 project which I’m starting to get back to after a long hiatus.
From ChinMusicPress I also highly recommend Kuhaku and for more immediate gratification their hitotoki website.

I’ll have to recommend this to my wife. She’s a big book reader. Wish I was. Nice to hear you’re getting the itch to do more Haiku 575 work.

Hi Enrico, glad you are enjoying the book. Hope Sumie’s writings offer inspiration for your haiku 5-7-5 project. We’re planning to have Sumie visit the Pacific Northwest in the second week of November — don’t know if we’ll make it down to the Bay area or not, but she’ll most likely read in Portland, Seattle and perhaps Vancouver — it’s all being worked out as I write this.
Thanks for your support. It means a lot.
