Ratatouille

This past weekend we had our big wrap party for Ratatouille. It’s simply amazing to see the culmination of the work of so many years and so many people all coming together in this fantastic film. I arrived at Pixar Animation Studios and San Francisco more than five years ago expressly to work on this movie, my first Pixar credit in fact, so as you can imagine this is an especially sweet moment for me. I’ll just say this for now: I just can’t wait to see this puppy unleashed on the world. June 29th. You are gonna love it.

Interestingly, something else is “premiering” on June 29th too.

Update- A nice articles over here, from the Time magazine. Watch out for spoilers though … especially toward the end of the article.

Congratulations. The movie looks fantastic. I’ve been to see every Pixar movie on opening day since A Bug’s Life. I know I’m going to be spending SO much money on this film.

It really took 5 years to get this movie made?

  2. Lexi Says:

Hey Enrico! That’s quite an accomplishment man! Congrats! I’m flying into San Francisco for opening weekend. I’m a student at Animation Mentor (of which two of your fellow current and past Pixar-ians are cofounders of the school - Carlos Baena and Bobby BOOM Beck). We have our school’s annual BBQ that weekend and people are flying in from all over the world for it. So we’re invading a theater in San Francisco as a large group of animators and artists to see Ratatouille on opening night. I’m sure you have seen it plenty of times but if you’d like to join us it would be a great honor. And I’m sure we’d let out a great cheer as your name scrolls by in the credits. It will be incredible to see either way. Great work man - you’ve accomplished a dream! Again, congrats - it’s an amazing accomplishment for you!

  3. Cal Says:

Congratulation! The trailer looks awesome! I can’t wait to see it either.
It’s going to rock the box office. You got to tell us what sequence you’ve worked on later. I got the same question as Donal as well. It tooks 5 years to make this movie, Did Brad work on Ratatouille and Incredibles at the same time?

p.s Did you find youself a good camera - cellphone yet?

  4. paul briggs Says:

congratulations enrico! looking forward to seeing the movie!

which sequences did you do the most work on?

  5. Donal Says:

    Cal,

I don’t know how far it went, and all that, or if I’m mis-remembering facts, but in the Art of Ratatoullie it says Jan Pinkova was the original story developer/director, and when the film started to kinda lose track Brad Bird was asked to take over as director and give it guidance.

  6. Enrico Says:

Donal- I worked on Ratatouille for 4 years, been on another movie the last year and a half. In general these films take a while from development to production. Ratatouille was scheduled for a 2007 release from the beginning.

Lexi- thanks for the invite, I am not sure I’ll be in SF that weekend yet … if I am I’ll try to make it.

Cal- Donal answered your question pretty well …
    No I haven’t found a good camera phone yet … :(
maybe I should just give in to the thought of an i-phone ? ;)

Paul- don’t want to give spoilers … how about I tell you once the movie is out ?
