Chinatown lunch

I am having congee (rice soup) with pork and preserved egg and some veggies with oyster sauce at Wonton Garden, used to come to this restaurant ten years ago. This trip is a total walk down memory lane for me. Been interesting … Anyway I needed a nice hot soup, the weather is clear but really cold today … in the 20s. Brrrrr.

Second stop: Taipan Bakery for a tasty egg custard and a hot tea with milk. X)

Those look yummy. Enrico, do you recommend any dim sum places in San Francisco? There seems to be several places labeled “the best dim-sum restaraunt in SF”. One of those places is surely lying to me…. thanks e.

    Gerald,

My Hong Kong friends either like Koi Palace (expensive) in Daly City or Joy Luck Place in Cupertino. There is also ABC Seafood in Milpitas or Hong Kong Flower Lounge in Millbrae but it is always hit or miss. But, my Hong Kong friends and I agree that the best DIM SUM is in Hong Kong. Forget SF.

Congee is actually porridge,Chinese style (made with rice). ;)

Hehe, Enrico, you’re so oldschool Asian with your pork and century egg congee.

Mm, is that chinese broccoli?! There are several dim sum houses in Oakland. Tin’s Teahouse in WC isn’t bad. Kind of overpriced but very good.

thanks ck and amb, I really appreciate all of those suggestions.
I can’t wait to try them …You guys rock!

Gerald- well seems like you got good suggestions for the real good stuff. If you don’t want to make the hike or wait for a table for long in those excellent restaurants I think Golden Mountain in chinatown isn’t bad … it’s on 644 Broadway @ Stockton.

CK- good to know … thanks C.

Sandra- thanks for the clarification… X)

Clio-eh eh eh … oh yeah.

amb- I think so … though depending on where you order them they seem to call them differently … I’ve often saw them called “chinese vegetables” in NY … rather general …
